New River Kent Season Starts
As a new season begins on the KWAA waters of the River Kent, there is a real sense of anticipation along the banks. The 2026 season proved to be one to remember, delivering some exceptional fishing and setting a high benchmark for the year ahead.
Salmon catches were particularly impressive, with more fish landed than in recent seasons. Among them was a magnificent salmon weighing over 21lb, and one dedicated angler enjoyed remarkable success, landing 23 salmon over the course of the season. These results reflect not only favourable conditions but also the ongoing stewardship of the river.
Brown trout fishing was equally memorable, with numerous fish exceeding 5lb and one specimen tipping the scales at just under 7lb. Importantly, these larger trout were carefully returned and will be present again this season, offering exciting prospects for anglers.
Rule Books can be downloaded on the website, or picked up in Carlson’s
KWAA continues to promote responsible angling. Catch and release is strongly encouraged, barbless hooks are suggested, and only tagged, stocked brown trout may be retained. Please also remember that the river is strictly fly fishing only until 1st May.
Full details of KWAA rules are available on the website and in the printed season booklet, which can be obtained from Carlson’s Fishing Shop in Kendal or by sending a stamped addressed envelope to: KWAA, 28 Castle Crescent, Kendal, LA9 7AN.
We look forward to another outstanding season on the River Kent.
Junior Angler’s Important Information & Learn to Fly Fish Days

We would like to remind all members of the regulations relating to Junior Anglers.
Firstly, Junior season tickets can only be purchased from Carlson’s Tackle Shop in Kendal. This is an important requirement. By issuing Junior tickets directly through the shop, we can ensure that each young angler receives a full explanation of the club rules and understands their responsibilities before fishing our waters.
Secondly, a parent or guardian’s signature is required on every Junior season ticket. This confirms that both the Junior angler and their responsible adult have read and understood the club rules, including when, where, and how they are permitted to fish. This procedure is essential to comply with our insurance requirements. Please be aware that failure to follow KWAA rules will invalidate the angler’s insurance cover with the Angling Trust.

Killington Pike Fishing

Pike landed this year. Note the care taken to ensure it went back perfectly
Killington Reservoir has fast become one of the most respected waters in the region for pike anglers. Under the stewardship of KWAA, this vast and impressive water is building a strong reputation for producing quality fish. Just a few years ago, a magnificent 28lb pike was landed – a capture that confirmed what many local anglers had long suspected: Killington holds some serious predators.

Very large pike landed a few years back. Not the 28lb Killimonster
In recent seasons, more anglers have turned their attention to pike fishing on the reservoir, with some reporting catches of up to five pike in a single session. As a very large water with a thriving stock of coarse fish, it offers ideal conditions for big pike to grow on. What’s more, many areas remain lightly fished for pike, leaving plenty of potential for even bigger specimens to be discovered. We are confident there are very big 20lb-plus fish present – perhaps even a legendary “Killimonster” waiting to be caught.
KWAA invites anglers to take on the challenge and see who can land the biggest pike. Please remember to strictly follow KWAA pike fishing rules and always use the correct unhooking equipment to ensure all pike are returned safely to the reservoir.
