The Kent Angling Association control and manage 8 miles of double bank game fishing for salmon, sea trout, and brown trout. 

The Kent is one of the fastest flowing, spring-run rivers in the country. As the river flows through the countryside, wildlife is abundant, including kingfishers, squirrels and otters. The river has many waterfalls, weirs, and pools, which migratory fish negotiate and will hold. 

Starting its life in Kentmere Reservoir in the valley of Kentmere, it flows through several villages to meet the River Sprint. A mile downstream it joins the River Mint at a place known as the Meetings at the Gravel Trap. From here, these two small rivers join to become the River Kent. The river flows on, down through Kendal, to Force Falls, the best place to view leaping salmon in England, then a few miles further into Morecambe Bay’s estuary. 

The Kent is a designated salmon river by the EEC, with the water quality kept at the level acceptable to that governing body. Also, English Nature has designated the river as a Special Site of Scientific Interest as it supports the last habitat of the white clawed crayfish and white pearl mussel. Kent Angling Association work hand in hand with English Nature and the Environment Agency to promote the protection, ecology, and future of these endangered species.

Fishing Overview

• Methods permitted include fly spinning and worm. (Fly only until 1^st May, then fly, spinning and worm)
• Barbless, catch and release fishing is encouraged.
• Salmon starts on the 1st of February, (fish must be returned unharmed until 16 June). Fishing takes off from June onwards until the end of October. A typical Kent Salmon would be between 4-8 pounds but in recent years catch returns have shown fish being taken up to 20 pounds in weight.
• Sea Trout start running the lower reaches of the river around May with some good sport in July and August. Fish average between 2-4 pounds with bigger fish taken up to 10 pounds.
• Brown Trout are stocked each year to support the wild trout numbers. Fish average between 1-2 pounds with regular bigger fish taken over 5 pounds.
• The river is not a coarse fishery.

Parking for members is offered in a number of secure designated car parks, there is also the option for visiting anglers to use various public parking locations along the river.

• Located approximately 1 mile from Junction 37 of the M6 Motorway situated in picturesque countryside.
• This 37-acre Reservoir is ideally located for Visiting Anglers being so near to the Motorway. There is also a Motel at the Killington Services.
• The Reservoir is rapidly becoming well known for the quality of the fishing and is great value for money.
• Fishing is ideal for both the Coarse and Game Angler.
• Visitors welcome
• The Reservoir once supplied water to the Lancaster and Kendal Canal (which unfortunately is now mostly filled in, though there are long term plans to rebuild the canal system once again connecting Lancaster with Kendal by water)
• The Fishery is open 365 days per year or 366 in a leap year!
• The Fishery is open to non-Kent (Westmorland) Angling Association Members as well as Full Season Members. So Visitors can buy a Day or Season Ticket.

Killington General Fishing

• Special day and season permits are available.
• Day fishing only, no night fishing.
• Barbless hooks at all times (including lures).
• Fishing from the banks only.
• No canoes or boats are allowed on the reservoir.
• No dogs or fires.

Coarse Fishing

• There are large shoals of roach also present, the lake is becoming known amongst specialist anglers.
• Other bream, perch to a good size, and eel.
• Good pike fishing with specimen fish of 20 lbs being taken.
• Maggots (in the brown trout close season) and sweetcorn may be used when coarse fishing.
• The use of power baits is banned at all times.

Brown Trout Fishing

• Stocked between March and June with brown trout of around 1.2 lbs.
• The wild brown trout offer interesting sport. Some of the larger ones have survived previous encounters of catch and return.
• Brown trout season runs from 15th March until 30th September.
• Catch and release encouraged. Bag limit 2 fish per angler per day.
• Only worm, spinning, and fly methods are permitted.
• Only one rod at a time when fishing for trout unless two permits are purchased.
