New Fishing Season Underway

The new fishing season is now well underway, and it’s been a fantastic start across KWAA waters. Members have already reported some excellent brown trout fishing, particularly on the fly, with fish showing well during milder spells and steady hatches. Early season conditions have been favourable, with good water levels and clarity helping anglers make the most of these opening weeks.

Fly anglers are enjoying success using traditional patterns, with trout responding eagerly in both faster runs and quieter pools. It’s shaping up to be a promising season ahead, so if you haven’t yet dusted off your gear, now is the time to get out and enjoy what our waters have to offer.

Our River Kent Exhibition (March 5th – April 25th,)

Kendal Museum is currently hosting Our River Kent, a fascinating exhibition exploring the deep and evolving relationship between the people of Kendal and the River Kent. Running from March 5th to April 25th, the exhibition highlights how the river has shaped the town’s landscape, livelihoods, and identity over centuries, offering a thoughtful look at both its past and future. You can find more details here:

The exhibition brings together items from the museum’s own collection alongside contributions from local groups such as the Clean River Kent Campaign, Natural Kendal, and the Kendal Oral History Group. It’s a great opportunity for members to connect with the river beyond fishing—understanding its ecological importance and the ongoing efforts to protect and preserve this vital waterway. Trout Stocking Update

We would like to remind all members of the regulations relating to Junior Anglers.

We’re pleased to confirm that pre-season trout stocking has now been successfully completed across KWAA waters. This year’s stocking programme has been carefully planned to support healthy fish populations and ensure a rewarding experience for anglers throughout the season.

Early reports suggest the stocked fish have settled well, adding to the already strong presence of wild brown trout. This balance between stocked and natural fish is key to maintaining the quality of our fisheries, and we encourage members to fish responsibly and help preserve these waters for seasons to come.

Fly Fishing Only Reminder (Until May 1st)

A reminder to all members that fishing on the River Kent remains fly only until May 1st, in line with association rules. This early-season restriction helps protect fish stocks during a sensitive period and ensures fair sport for all anglers.

Please be aware that any anglers found not respecting the fly-only rule may face serious consequences, including the loss of their KWAA licence for this season and potential exclusion from future membership. Bailiffs will be monitoring activity, and your cooperation is essential in maintaining the standards and integrity of our waters.

Season Ticket Prices Frozen For 2026

Despite rising costs elsewhere, the club has frozen season ticket prices, ensuring fishing remains accessible to all:

£100 – Senior members

£80 – OAPs

£20 – Juniors

This continues to make KWAA – Kent Angling probably the most affordable salmon fishing in the country, without compromising on quality, conservation, or experience.
