New Season Start
The change to online tickets has gone well, with only a few glitches to be ironed out. The great news is that the Kent Season Ticket, reduction to one price only, with the same price for both locals and no-locals has been well received. At £100 for the year for 8 miles of the Kent and a full Killington Season, it is probably the best value membership in the country.
Some hardy anglers have been out already, however most of us are waiting for slightly warmer weather to get going. Just like these 2 lads from last year, who both had their first salmon ever on the same day. Just minutes apart. It is always great to see how well they respected and returned the fish in perfect condition. It is days like this that make fishing so special.

The 2 lads had their best ever day fishing on the Kent, last year, both catching their first ever salmon on the same day!
New Bailiffs Join KWAA
Regardless of how we all follow the rules and regulations, there is still a need to control anglers and our waters, so we are please, to announce we have 2 new bailiffs who will be checking tickets this year. They are currently being kitted out with body cams and night vision glasses to keep fishing on KWAA waters, just for KWAA members!
You will soon be seeing the new KWAA Private Fishing signs going up at all key points of the river Kent and Killington. More information on our new bailiff’s next month.

Not every angler needs controlling, and not every angler can read the signs. 2 river Kent fishers here. One poised for the catch, and one after, obviously not following our catch and release advice!
When to fish the Kent
For our new members, we will be sharing more information when and how to best fish the Kent. The river is spate river, which rises and falls quickly. This means it can have a different fishing pattern to other rivers. Timing can be critical for a great day. Regardless of the time of year, if there has been a dry spell, then heavy rain, the salmon and sea trout will run from Morecambe Bay. Salmon in the Spring and Summer are just as likely as the Autumn months.
Did you know?
KWAA is one of the oldest fishing clubs in the UK. There are records back to the 1840’s, however it is believed the club was formed before. The club was the centre of Kendal and the Lakes fishing scene. Kendal was the first town known for making fishhooks in the UK. The Adlington fishhook company started in Kendal in 1743. The brand owners were always closely linked to the club. We are looking to find out more 😊.

Adlington, then Adlington & Son, were the leading hook makers in the World. The Kendal hook is still made today!
Some Sad News
We are sad to let you know of the passing of Brian Ogden, who will have checked many of our tickets. Brian was a key committee member and had made a great contribution to the club over many years, bringing fresh ideas and fun to our meetings. He was also a keen wildlife photographer (the Kingfisher photo featured before was taken by Brian) and was closely involved in the osprey project at Foulshaw Moss. He will be sadly missed.
Killington – South Wind Blows Best
Many of us go fishing when we can, however the lucky few, can go fishing when the time is right. It seems a South wind is right!
Neil Yates and Graeme Dawes, had had success on the reservoir with a south wind before, so thought they would have another foray, with the same conditions, with some great success! A south-west, wind combined with relatively mild temperature, gave them confidence the roach would show, and they did, with both anglers bagging over 10lb of roach and perch each. The unexpected guest was a very large trout for Graeme which looked to be over 5lb, safely returned after removing another angler’s hook and hook length.

Neil Yates and Graeme Dawes, bagging up on Killington, with a welcome, but unexpected catch!
Killington Reservoir as a secret fishing location is spreading amongst the coarse fishing anglers of the Northwest, with record numbers buying membership and day tickets. At £40 a year, it is a very accessible bargain for great all year fishing.
