2025 Overview
This year has been another outstanding one for Kent Westmorland Angling, marked by significant member growth, online improvements, and strong local collaboration. Membership now stands at almost 380 anglers, including around 80 juniors. Having so many young anglers coming through is fantastic for the future of the club and for angling on our waters.
Our River Kent and Killington Reservoir continue to provide exceptional fishing opportunities, attracting anglers from near and far. Trout, sea trout and salmon fishing all remain strong, and we’ve also seen a rise in coarse fishing, thanks to careful management and increased awareness.
2025 saw far greater visibility for KWAA through the website and online ticket service, supported by much more active social media. These platforms have made it easier for members to get information, check river conditions and share tips. They’ve also helped us connect with a wider audience and support newer anglers coming into the sport.
A particular highlight has been the increase in junior members. Their enthusiasm has been brilliant to see, and the support from Carlson’s Tackle Store in Kendal, along with our £20 junior season ticket, has played a big part in this. Below, so great junior caught trout.

RIVER KENT. The River Kent fished very well this year, compared to recent years, with a particularly strong season for salmon and sea trout. As always, timing is everything, and those able to get out when the river height, rain and weather all lined up enjoyed excellent fishing.
The club continues to promote barbless fishing and catch-and-release, and it’s encouraging to see members fully embracing this. Our commitment to protecting the river remains a priority. We have continued our regular water-testing programme and worked with local conservation groups to tackle issues such as invasive species and pollution.

KILLINGTON RESERVOIR. Killington continues to perform extremely well and is now widely recognised for the quality of its fishing. Roach, perch, bream, tench, and large pike and the occasional trout all feature strongly. The annual stocking programme, supported by the EA, has made a noticeable difference, including the 3,000 roach and bream.
There are now more anglers and more competitions on Killington than ever before, yet thanks to its size, large areas remain barely touched. It’s easy access, great value and growing online presence have all helped increase interest.
Looking ahead to 2026
The club is in a very healthy position as we look towards 2026. A couple of priorities for the coming year will be:
- Introducing better guidance and education for our junior anglers, ensuring they continue to fish safely and responsibly.
- Updating the club’s fishing maps and car-park maps, which will make things clearer and easier for everyone.
Thank you to all our committee members, volunteers, partners and every angler who has supported the club this year. Your enthusiasm and hard work continue to make Kent Westmorland Angling a thriving and welcoming community. Here’s to another successful year ahead.
